What We Do
At We Worthy Women, we are dedicated to preventing gender-based violence before it starts, by going upstream to address the social and systemic root causes that lead to violence. Our work falls into three core pillars: support for prevention interventions, knowledge generation & mobilization, and creating opportunities to connect and convene for the GBV sector. Our dream is to co-design prevention programs with organizations, build and disseminate knowledge for effective practices, and create opportunities for organizations and sectors to work together to end the GBV epidemic. Our work is iterative, community-led, and grounded in the belief that we are all worthy of safety.
Support for GBV Prevention Initiatives
Collaborate to design and deliver initiatives that are based in evidence and adapted to the community’s specific culture.
Evaluate prevention initiatives to increase understanding of effective practices.
Knowledge Generation & Mobilization
Build collective understanding for root causes of GBV and effective GBV prevention strategies.
Develop and share digestible resources for communities to implement effective GBV prevention initiatives.
Opportunities to Connect & Convene
Facilitate connections and collaborations amongst peer organizations who are designing and delivering GBV prevention initiatives.
Lead collective voice and advocacy to demonstrate combined efforts across organizations and communities working to prevent GBV.
Areas of Work
Gender-based violence is a pervasive issue that has disproportionate impacts on women, girls, 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, immigrants and newcomers, Indigenous and racialized communities, people with disabilities, and those living in rural and remote communities. To maximize the impact of our GBV prevention efforts, we are focused on working in partnership with organizations who have relationships with individuals who have intersecting and overlapping identities - those who are most vulnerable to experiencing gender-based violence.
We also believe that effective prevention efforts must include men and boys as part of the solution and we are committed to supporting work with those who have the potential to cause harm in our effort to build safer communities for all. We all have a part to play in preventing and addressing gender-based violence, and will work with partners to develop effective prevention initiatives that are adapted to their audience and co-designed by the communities most impacted.

Past Projects
Action Now Atlantic
Action Now Atlantic (ANA) was a federally funded initiative and campaign to address sexual violence within post-secondary communities in Atlantic Canada through education, advocacy, and community engagement. Through this project, we created educational material, developed platforms for youth advocacy, and supported a cross-provincial network of knowledge and resource mobilization in an effort to promote a culture of consent on campuses across Atlantic Canada.
Focus: Post-Secondary Institutions
Safer Schools Survey
The Safer Schools Survey was an initiative to better understand student and alumni experiences with sexual violence and consent education & resources at Canadian post-secondary institutions. Our aim was to identify current gaps and challenges on campuses across Canada, and share recommendations for change to better support survivors and end sexual violence in post-secondary communities.

It’s Not Just
We Worthy Women was a community partner for It’s Not Just, a youth focused gender-based violence awareness campaign from Women and Gender Equality Canada. As a community partner, we supported the development of education content, distributed campaign materials to community organizations across Atlantic Canada, and amplified the voices of youth from our community.
