About Us

Mission

We Worthy Women is building connections, capacity and knowledge to prevent gender-based violence.

Vision

We envision communities where everyone is safe, secure, and thriving.

How We Work

We always work in collaboration

We work intentionally to deepen and broaden relationships with organizations who are already involved in ending gender-based violence, as well as those who are not yet involved in the solutions. We approach working with organizations in relational and reciprocal ways to build relationships that are rooted in trust and transparency. We are working to support a network of connected and resourced prevention interventions and nurture systems change through our collaborations.

We are advancing equity and social justice

Gender-based violence impacts everyone, but marginalized communities are often more vulnerable to violence and have less access to services and resources for support. We are committed to advancing justice and equity in all of our work, as we focus on GBV prevention where the needs and impact are greatest.

We are continuously learning and evaluating ourselves

We are embedding a culture of continuous learning, adaptation, and knowledge sharing within our day-to-day practices and our work with others. We are a learning organization and are working to incorporate impact measurement and evaluation into all of our projects and programming.

The Journey to Get Here

Our journey from the beginning as a social media account, to leading community engagement, education and advocacy initiatives in post-secondary communities, to today, building capacity for our organization to become a catalyst for GBV prevention in Nova Scotia.

What We Do

2018

The We Worthy Women Instagram account was launched to share women empowerment and gender equality related content.

2020

We incorporated as a non-profit organization to expand our impact beyond social media. Our purpose was to provide motivational and educational content, share resources, and amplify women’s voices.

2021

Our website was launched and the mission & vision was revised. We shifted to a focus on gender-based violence, which coincides with the time we were developing Action Now Atlantic. During this time, we:

  • Received a Rising Youth Grant to create the Safer Schools Survey
  • Became a Commitment Maker for UN Generation Equality on Gender-Based Violence and Feminist Movements & Leadership
  • Received funding in September 2021 to launch Action Now Atlantic, a 2.5 year WAGE-funded project to address sexual and gender-based violence within post-secondary communities in Atlantic Canada through education, advocacy, and community engagement.
  • 2022

We led the Action Now Atlantic initiative and campaign, which included:

  • Our Youth Advocacy Network and Athletic Advisory Group
  • Educational and advocacy focused social media campaigns
  • Virtual events on consent, supporting survivors, student advocacy efforts, etc.
  • The distribution of physical material to post-secondary campuses for Consent Awareness Week in 2022 & 2023
  • Bi-monthly meetings with the sexual violence prevention advisors from institutions across Atlantic Canada
  • 2023

We continued to work on the Action Now Atlantic initiative and campaign until the project ended in Fall 2023.

We became a community partner for It’s Not Just - a Youth GBV Campaign led by WAGE. As a community partner, we supported the development of educational modules, nominated youth from our community to join the It’s Not Just youth advisory board, and shared educational content from the campaign.

    2024

We received funding through WAGE Canada’s Capacity Building Fund for Foundations for Our Sustainable Future - a 1.5 year project to build organizational capacity and secure operational funding to support the sustainability of our organization.

    2025

Throughout the year we have continued our capacity building work for We Worthy Women in an effort to build a strong foundation for the sustainability of our organization. Some of these activities have included the development of our first strategic plan, board recruitment and improving organizational policies, project and partnership development, and work to streamline funding proposal processes and diversify funding sources. As a result, we have shifted our organizational mission to a specific focus on preventing gender-based violence before it starts, with the aim of supporting communities where everyone is safe, secure, and thriving.

    2025-2028 Strategic Plan

We are excited to share our first strategic plan that represents a renewed direction for We Worthy Women! We have always worked towards building safer communities and collaborated widely to build collective knowledge and capacity with other community organizations. We are committed to building on these strengths as we turn our undivided attention to focus on building connections, capacity, and knowledge to prevent gender-based violence.
